Asobo Studio has confirmed that A Plague Tale Requiem will utilize the capabilities of the PS5 to further enhance its technical aspects and functionality. The sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence will feature an extended field of view, improved map rendering, and a considerable increase in the number of details processed in real time.
According to Nicolas Becavin (via PS Blog), the developer’s engine programmer, the low loading time due to the SSD will allow for a real expansion of horizons. The number of mice, for example, will be increased from 5,000 to 300,000 at times – about six times the maximum amount presented in the previous game.
Now the pest animals will be able to manage tsunami movement, rather than just moving in hordes across the ground. In addition, this maximized detail comes together with optimized lighting quality, atmospheric effects, and more, ensuring new gameplay approaches and even more cinematic situations.
The PS5 GPU also makes it possible to implement textures with high levels of detail, both in the dark and in large, illuminated areas. Paired with more interactive, three-dimensional scenarios, the new physics come with greater dynamics – something that will be noticed in the movement of clothing and additional map volumes.
DualSense improves the overall experience in A Plague Tale Requiem
Praised by Asobo Studio’s lead designer Kevin Pinson, DualSense will be an immersive tool in A Plague Tale Requiem. The PS5 controller will provide access to realistic 3D audio, speakerphone, tactile feedback with physical responses, and adaptive triggers that adjust to weapons and actions in hand-to-hand combat.
“There are also refreshing features coming to communicate character movement: tactile feedback is used to simulate the effect of each step during the race, producing small bumps for the player to feel the rhythm of the sprint, giving the impression of being next to the characters and sharing their sensations,” comments Becavin.
A Plague Tale Requiem will be released on October 18 for PS5, Xbox Series and PC.
