Deadpool 3 has been officially confirmed, and with that came the information that Wolverine will return. But how does that happen, when you consider the events of Logan? Well, actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have explained… Sort of.
In a new video posted on the social media of the falsetto mercenary’s interpreter, Reynolds and Jackman sit side by side to clear up some questions from MCU (Cinematic Universe of the MCU) fans, including questions about the timeline and Logan canon.
Jackman raises the question “how is Wolverine alive after Logan?” Reynolds then explains that the mutant’s last solo film takes place in the year 2029 and is “a completely separate thing” from the new project. “Logan died in Logan, we’re not going to mess with that.”
As Reynolds and Jackman begin to explain what will happen in Deadpool 3, their voices are cut off by the song Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by the group Wham! To the sound of the track by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, the actors act out some possible moments from the film, such as when Deadpool and Wolverine impale each other.
The music then cuts out and they both thank Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios. Check out the video below:

How does Wolverine return in Deadpool 3?
Despite the artists’ joke, it is possible for us to consider that although Logan dies in 2029 in the film of the same name, Deadpool 3 takes place years earlier — which would explain why he is walking around.
However, nothing is known about the plot or setting of the mercenary’s new film, and so we can only speculate upon the themes that will be portrayed and Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine.
When will Deadpool 3 premiere?
Deadpool 3 is scheduled to premiere on September 6, 2024. The film will be part of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU), but will retain an adult indicative rating. Filmmaker Shawn Levy, who made Free Guy and The Adam Project, both with Ryan Reynolds, will be the director of Deadpool 3. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who worked on the first two films, will return to write the script for the new film. The information is from Variety.
Prior to the confirmation of Hugh Jackman returning to the role of Wolverine, the actor had already expressed interest in returning to the role. In addition, in 2021, Ryan had said that Deadpool 3 would be a “road trip” style film of the character with Wolverine.
