In preparation for World Cup 2022, EA has released free event-themed DLC in FIFA 23, which is available on PC and PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Famous for guessing the champions of recent World Cups, EA Games has predicted Argentina to be the champion over Brazil, with France coming in third place in their official simulation.
Besides the champion of the great competition, the company also disclosed the top scorer of World Cup 2022 and best player of the tournament, based on data from the game. The Argentine Lionel Messi, who is going to his last edition of the event, was the first in both awards.
Inspired by EA, Jornal dos Jogos also simulated the World Cup, but we closely followed our national team in its quest for a sixth World Cup title. Will we make it? Let’s see the results obtained in the game!
Group Stage
The Brazilian team was placed in group G with Cameroon, Serbia and Switzerland. The canarinho pistola team did not have many difficulties, beating Serbia 2-1, Switzerland 2-0 and drawing with Cameroon 1-1 in the last round. A very quiet first round, but will the “oba oba” atmosphere continue in the knockout stage?
Mata-mata
Following the group, Brazil met South American rival Uruguay and, after a hard-fought game of 1-1, went through with a penalty shootout victory over the Uruguayans. In the quarterfinals they met the dreaded Germany, which has already given us a giant trauma, but here Hansi Flick’s team was defeated 2-1, with Brazil qualifying for the semifinals.
Belgium was the next to be eliminated by Brazil, repeating the scoreline of the 2018 clash, but now the Canarinho team came out victorious and advanced to the final. It is also important to note that, in this knockout stage, Australia advanced in the group of France, which fell in the group stage. Denmark, on the other hand, managed to eliminate Argentina, one of the favorites and champions in EA’s simulation, showing that clearly the Journal lives in an interesting parallel universe.
Final
Despite advancing and reaching the final, it didn’t work out for Brazil: the team lost 1-0 to the Netherlands. The hex was right there and we let it slip away. With the minimum score, the Netherlands became world champion for the first time, at least in the FIFA simulation of the Jornal dos Jogos.
World Cup Highlights
Maclaren of Australia was the top scorer of the Cup in Qatar with 7 goals and received the Golden Boot, according to the projection. The outstanding goalkeeper of the tournament was Jasper Cillessen of the champion Netherlands, while the best player of the championship was Braithwaite of the Danish team. Brazil was voted Team of the Championship.
Championship Team
The game also assembled a team based on the players who were featured in the World Cup 2022 simulation. Check it out below!
- Cillessen – Netherlands
- Mæhle – Denmark
- Van Dijk – Netherlands
- Marquinhos – Brazil
- Danilo – Brazil
- Braithwaite – Denmark
- Klaassen – Netherlands
- Eriksen – Denmark
- Skov Olsen – Denmark
- Depay – Netherlands
- Neymar Jr – Brazil
While the Jornal dos Jogos World Cup simulation was fun but brought defeat, the Brazilian national team still has a chance to win the trophy in the real version of the competition. The event in Qatar runs from November 20 to December 18.
