Early Access is currently available for Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s and Digital Deluxe edition pre-orders on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. You may enter the game and begin playing straight now. Hooray!
It’s a wonderful game, and I can’t wait to write up my thoughts as I progress through the Wizarding World adventure and hear what you all think of the RPG.
In any event, when I went to play the game on PC (I also play on PS5) this morning, I discovered something. Despite pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe edition of the game on Steam, the Play button was greyed out. I couldn’t participate! Did I order the incorrect version?
That wasn’t the case, according to my receipt. What gives? I paid $70 for the Digital Deluxe and it was already 10 a.m. PT, so what’s the deal? (Make sure you get the Digital Deluxe edition as well!)
It turns out that there is a simple solution. Simply quit Steam and re-enter it. After you do this, the Play button will become green, and you should be able to load straight in. If this fails, you can try:
- Validating game files. To do so, right-click the game and select Properties, then Local Files. Select Verify game file integrity from this menu.
- Uninstall and reinstall the game, then restart Steam.

If none of these works, you’ll have to contact Steam Support.
Update: It appears that many folks are experiencing difficulties. I was going to include a link to this Reddit topic, but it has now been removed. It appears that several things went wrong on both the Steam and Warner Bros. ends with this Early Access. I’m still looking into it to learn more. Keep an eye out…
