The Duffer Brothers are slowly revealing their plans for the fifth season of Stranger Things. We have scraps of plot so far, but the creators of the series know what they want to deliver to the audience.
According to them (via Variety and Dealine), the finale of Stranger Things will blend all the previous seasons together. However, the goal would also be to “go back to the beginning.” In their words:
“Season five, the way we see it, is kind of the culmination of all the seasons, so it kind of has a little bit of each. […] Part 3 is our big summer blockbuster season with big monsters, and season 4 was the psychological horror. I think what we’re trying to do is go back to the beginning a little bit, in kind of the tone of part 1.[…] But also, in terms of scale, it’s more in line with what part 4 is, so hopefully it’ll have a little bit of everything.”
The series team also revealed that the first episode of the fifth season, called “The Crawl,” is already finished. And we can start to have high expectations, because Netflix executives apparently cried at the meeting in which the overall story map was presented.
“Just as important as Supernatural, we have so many characters now, most of whom are still alive. It’s important to wrap up those arcs because a lot of these characters are growing up from the first season. So it’s a balancing act between giving them time to complete their arcs and also tying up those loose ends and making our final revelations.”
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things does not yet have a premiere date. The previous four parts of the series can be watched on Netflix.
