Last Saturday (12), Sony Pictures announced that it has begun filming Gran Turismo, another of PlayStation Productions’ planned movies. The racing franchise is one more of the PlayStation productions on the big screen, like Uncharted (already released) and Ghost of Tsushima (future feature film).
The information was posted on Sony Pictures’ Twitter profile. According to the post, the movie is based on the story of Jann Mardenborough, a real-life game player who won several official Polyphony Digital competitions. Thanks to this, he became a real professional driver.

Filming has begun for the Gran Turismo movie. It is based on the true story of a GT gamer, Jann Mardenborough, who won a number of gaming competitions and thus eventually became a professional racing driver.
The feature film will feature major Hollywood actors. Two of them are David Harbour (“Stranger Things” and “Hellboy”) and Orlando Bloom (“Lord of the Rings”). The former will play a track veteran and mentor to a young driver, while the other will play a marketing executive who is trying to “sell” the sport of motorsports, but also has a thing for it as an art form.
More about the Gran Turismo movie
Production was handled by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions, as well as Doug Belgrad (Bad Boys Forever) and Dana Brunetti (50 Shades of Grey). The director of the franchise’s games, Kazunori Yamauchi, is the executive producer.
The Gran Turismo movie will premiere on August 11, 2023.
