Warner Bros Discovery has finally defined the new leaders of DC in theaters and TV. Director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran will be the heads of DC Studios, the film and TV division focused on the publisher’s heroes.
The news was revealed by THR, which claims that the pair will report directly to David Zaslav, the head of the conglomerate. The announcement of the new bosses and CEOs comes less than a week after the departure of Walter Hamada, the former president of DC Films.
The choice of the duo should not cause surprise to DC fans, since both have experience with this universe. James Gunn directed and wrote The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker, a series focused on the Peacemaker. Safran has served as a producer on both titles and on other releases such as Aquaman (2018) and Shazam! (2019).
While Gunn will focus on the creative side, Safran is in charge with the business side, and together they will work closely with Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, presidents of Warner Bros Pictures.
It is worth remembering that DC is currently divided in theaters. In addition to the main universe, which currently includes Black Adam and the upcoming new Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman movies, there is also the Batman core led by Matt Reeves, and the Joker, who will once again have a solo feature with Joker: Folie à Deux.
