Fire Emblem Engage is just around the corner, releasing on January 20, 2023, and bringing several fan-favorite characters with it. They’re back as summons to help you in battle with magical rings, and a new trailer just showed Lucina, Ike, and Roy.

Lucina made her debut in Fire Emblem Awakening. She is the daughter of Chrom, also known as your protagonist’s child. Lucina later appeared in Heroes and Warriors, voiced by Abby and Mary Jane Watson, actress Laura Bailey, but she was later voiced by Alexis Tipton, who was in Fullmetal Alchemist Julia Clayton in NieR: Automata as Pascal. She will return to participate.

Ike, on the other hand, was the main character in Fire Emblem: Radiance Path, and reappeared as the main character in Bright Dawn. Finally, we have Roy, the self-proclaimed “not particularly bright” Binding Blade protagonist, who is the son of Blazing Blade protagonist Eliwood. He reappears in Awakening and Heroes, voiced by Final Fantasy Noctis actor Ray Chase.

We also see more of Engage’s protagonist, Alear, throughout the trailer. They fell asleep for 1000 years and finally woke up when the Engage began. Note that Byleth allows you to choose Alear’s gender early in the game, and both choices are distinguished by her half-blue, half-red hair.

In fact, Alear was developed by a VTube designer named Mika Pikazo. She has made avatars for VTubers like Hakos Baelz, Kaguya Luna, and Pinky Pop Hepburn. So when you’re out fighting the good fight, you’ll be happy to know that Alear is a VTuber in spirit. If they don’t sleep for 1000 years, they might be doing a little twitch livestream on the side, or they might be livestreaming.

In addition to Ike, Roy, and Lucina, we know Marte, Celica, and Sigurd will also return. However, at the end of the trailer, Alear is toyed with after learning that the villain can also use Emblems (the old character’s Ring Summons), which means some fan favorites may turn against them. We see a lot when Marth turns to the dark side, as indicated by her hair turning red. A final shot shows them among the burning ruins: “Everybody you cared about, they’re dead.”
