Overwatch 2 has been out for a month, but as its developers quickly learned, time flies for the live service game. So soon, it’s almost time to reveal the sequel’s next hero. Tonight’s Overwatch League Finals will feature the next character for the first time.
“Get an early look at the next Overwatch 2 hero. Friday, November 4th at the OWL Finals,” one tweet read. Unlike Kiriko, there doesn’t seem to be any indication of who the next hero will be or what class he will be. Images and clips of Kiriko, one of the three heroes in the Season 1 opener of Overwatch 2, have been making the rounds on the internet before the official reveal.
Blizzard is clearly more cautious this time around, and if it only lasts a few hours, it has a chance to really see what’s coming next in Overwatch 2. Real official reveals have become rare in games lately due to leaks, and even now, Blizzard isn’t sure about the day a new hero is revealed. A first look at a game, or even just a new feature, is usually due to a leak rather than a studio showing it off.

Kiriko, Junker Queen and Sojourn join the original Overwatch heroes, heralding the arrival of the new game. Blizzard’s goal is to add excitement with today’s hero reveal, because while Overwatch 2 has been played by millions to date, the game is far from perfect. From long queues to DDoS attacks, the sequel’s first month wasn’t easy.
While Overwatch 2’s new heroes haven’t been leaked ahead of time, the next map may have them. There is evidence online that it is likely underwater. Activision Blizzard’s behind-the-scenes issues continue. Some at the studio have been accused of sexual harassment and harboring a toxic work environment, prompting a new lawsuit last month.
