World of Pac-Man: Re-Pac, released this past August, is a remake of the late-90s platformer for current-generation consoles. However, the minds behind the original soon realized that while they were responsible for the source material, they weren’t credited in Re-Pac. After nearly three months, this issue has now been resolved.
Live updates now add points to the team that developed the original game. Acknowledgment shared by game designer Scott Rogers (via Time Extension). “After months of publicity, Bandai Namco has merged the original Pac-Man World team points into Pac-Man World: Remastered Remastered points,” Rogers tweeted. Rogers was part of the team on the original game and created a campaign for him and his colleagues to feature in the remake.
Rogers was the first to point out that the OG Pac-Man World team was missing in Re-Pac’s credits, and Bandai Namco quickly responded. Despite such a quick response, there was apparently more backlash before the studio committed to making the change, revealing that it received the update in the first week of October. After more than a month, the update is finally live.
Woot! After months of campaigning, @BandaiNamcoUS has included the credits of the original Pac-Man World team in the credits of the #PacManWorldRePac remake! Thank you to everyone who spread the world & helped support my cause! pic.twitter.com/Tjb38ICYAQ

Unfortunately, when a game is remade or remastered, it’s not just an example of a game’s creator not getting the credit they deserve. Something similar happened with Shadow of the Colossus and the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane trilogy. That’s despite the fact that the International Game Developers Association has set out guidelines stating that teams developing original games should actually be recognized first.
A lack of trust in the creators of Pac-Man World wasn’t the only reason players weren’t happy with Re-Pac when it was released. While much of the game remains the same, Ms. Pac-Man has been replaced by the lesser-known Pac-Mama. This is due to confusing rights issues with Ms. Pac-Man, which means she cannot legally be included in the remake.
