Sony revealed on Tuesday (01) its report with the results for the second quarter of fiscal 2022. In the document, the company confirmed that it has sold more than 25 million PS5 units worldwide.
Between the months of July and September 2022, 3.3 million copies of the next-generation console were sold – which corresponds to the same figures recorded between July and September 2021.
In the first half of the year alone, the Japanese giant sold more than 5.7 million PS5s. However, if it wants to beat its initial target of 18 million units in the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2023, it will need to adopt a more aggressive strategy.
Although shipments are not in line with the company’s projections, Sony still seems confident of reaching that goal by March 2023. It said that it had produced a total of 6.5 million devices during the last quarter – between the months of July and September 2022.
PS4 and PS5 Game Sales Drop
In terms of games (software), the PS4 and PS5 sold about 62.5 million units combined during the second quarter. When compared to the same period in 2021, which saw 76.4 million units sold, this represents a drop of 13.9 million. Of that number, 63% were digital downloads, up from 62% last year.
