When a series runs for 30 years and spans games, TV shows, movies and comics, the timeline gets pretty messy. Sonic the Hedgehog’s story may be too confusing to unravel, but Sega hopes it can clarify a few things by hiring someone to clean up the bruised history.

That’s right, if you’re figuring out exactly where Sonic Mania is in the 30-year timeline in every waking moment, and insomnia wonders if there’s a classic dimension, then Sega might just be for you. Lore Associate Manager at Sega’s California headquarters is now posted on LinkedIn and featured by Tracker_TD.

“You will be immersed in the organizing and shaping of Sonic lore, canon, characters, and universes, helping to bring consistency, connectivity, and creativity to all things Sonic across various forms of media,” Work summary writes. Responsibilities for successful applicants include reviewing content for narrative accuracy and reviewing knowledge documents.

Before you set out to apply, you’ll need a deeper understanding of Sonic’s universe to land the job. A few recent revelations from Ian Flynn may have also ruined some of the things you thought you knew about Sonic lore. Flynn refuted the theory that the Sonic world has two dimensions, arguing that the current Sonic and the classic Sonic are two different hedgehogs. Yes, this contradicts what is said in Sonic Forces. Are you starting to understand why Sega needs help to unravel its lore now?

Sonic fans trying to piece together the Hedgehog’s timeline with all this new information will arrive during Frontiers release week. If anything, Sega has hired a lore deputy manager at this juncture, which could be a hint that the new game will make things even more confusing. The prologue has already explained how Knuckles will be involved, with Sega revealing that Shadow won’t appear, but exactly where Frontiers will land on a timeline is still up for debate.
