Square Enix has had its ups and downs over the years, with its notorious lows following the commercial failure of Final Fantasy: Inside the Soul. But that’s long gone, and the latest reports suggest the Japanese publisher is doing well.

Square Enix announced its financial results for the April-September period of this year, reporting a net profit of 39.4 billion yen, or about $268 million. This is an increase of 71.7% over the previous fiscal year, which is a very significant increase. So what explains this boost?

In the six months ended September 30, Square Enix released games like Live A Live and Dragon Quest 10, but those releases brought in less revenue than Outriders and NieR Replicant released in the previous fiscal year Version 1.22474487139. Likewise, Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile, which launched in August, did well at first, but failed to make up for the poor performance of the company’s existing games in the smart device/PC browser sub-segment compared to the same period last year.

The title helped change the fortunes of Square Enix this fiscal year: Final Fantasy 14. The publisher’s profit growth is partly due to a sharp rise in paid subscriptions to the MMO, which is steadily becoming one of the top Japanese companies. The product was a success after a lackluster launch in 2010.

In November 2012, with Naoki Yoshida in charge of the game, things changed after the original version of the MMO was shut down and replaced with a 2.0 version. Since then, Final Fantasy XIV has been a huge success for Square Enix, with players helping to transform the MMO into a rich and diverse community full of its own subcultures and niches.

While the online game is doing extremely well, other attempts by Square Enix to make a similar game have been bombarded. Chart A: The Fall of Babylon. Another field service disruption is the mobile battle royale game Final Fantasy 7: The Last Soldier, which will be retired on January 11, 2023. But given the revenue the publisher makes from Final Fantasy XIV, it’s perhaps not surprising that it’s willing to help create a new live-service game.
